Following Austria's accession to the European Union on 1 January 1995, European Community law has become a growing and ever more important part of Austrian law. EU regulations and directives have led to changes in numerous areas of law.

In 2002, the directly applicable EU Insolvency Regulation entered into force, according to which bankruptcy procedures will - in general - cover also assets in other Member States. The Austrian E-Commerce-law came into force at the beginning of 2002. This statute implements the EU E-Commerce Directive and regulates numerous questions concerning the conduct of business over the internet.

Susanne Kosesnik-Wehrle (LL.M.) is a graduate of the College of Europe (Bruges, Belgium) and has worked at the European Commission, Brussels. Stefan Langer also has experience in this growing area of law in our office. The firm has acted for clients in cases before the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.
